La Maison sous la neige (Henri Le Sidaner - 1936) was going to become the only winter scene we had this year. This painting was part of a beautiful exhibit in the Singer Museum.
We finally did see old man winter arrive this past weekend in the north of Holland. Cranberry Cottage became a white tipped painting.
"What a severe yet master artist old Winter is....
No longer the canvas and the pigments but the marble and the chisel."
John Burroughs, 1866

We got our first, and probably last, snow yesterday! It is beautiful to look at the snow.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved that painting.
ReplyDeleteYou have snow! We don't....yet!
Beautiful painting. We have had 2-3 snows and too many frigid days. Next week is supposed to have a heavy snow and be very cold all week. You know I will be staying home that whole time. :)
ReplyDeleteI prefer to just look at the snow but never like driving in it.
No snow here, but we are finally due for some much needed rain. I do hope you and Jos are doing fine....so very sorry about Dagi.
ReplyDeleteblessings, jill
Die eerste heb ik gezien tijdens de prachtige tentoonstelling.
ReplyDeleteVan het tweede is hier helaas niets te zien. Het vriest nu wel. Groetjes,
I hope that you are snug and warm at home. Snow is lovely if you don't have to go out in it :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely painting, snow can make any scene look beautiful when it's newly fallen. None here so far this winter though. I was so sorry to read that you have lost Dagi - I've only just read that post. You must miss him so much.
ReplyDeleteHoi heidi,
ReplyDeleteHier nog even de maten van het oude wasrek:

We've had more than enough snow here already this winter. It's been one of the most snowy winters we've had in a long time. So tired of it. Have about a foot on the ground, snowed another inch today, more coming Saturday...6+ inches! Your dusting of snow at the cottage is really pretty though.
ReplyDeleteHappy to read you again, Heidi ! I hope you and your husband are doing finer. A beautiful painting, thanks to you !
ReplyDeleteYou can come to Ohio if you want winter. We have everyones share. It has been below zero for days on end. Finally today it is in the 30s, I an way ready for Arizona.
ReplyDeleteLove you, Mom
PS: Pretty picture in the museum and the one you took

What a beautifully atmospheric painting, and your photo too! We have had no snow so far here in southern England this winter, but rain aplenty! Our poor neighbour, on a slope across the road from us, has sandbags permanently in place these days. Ah well, at least the sun shone all weekend - very cheering!

Lovely painting, Heidi. I hope you are keeping warm. We haven't had snow in about 3 years or so and received sleet, freezing rain and then finally some snow all in one day. We are headed up to about 21 C so you never know. Lovely pictures. - A :D
ReplyDeleteOMG again, Heidi! This is a second blessing of the day, with my discovery of your garden and seasons blog ! THANK YOU, my friend!
ReplyDeleteHow didn't I see it before ?? I'm gonna enjoy reading it *Ü*
Heartful thoughts,
NADINE
