Running waters.....

The sound of water running or dripping as it falls is the answer to living in the suburbs. It helps to mask the sound of neighbors in their gardens. But it is also pretty...

It adds something special to the garden and allows frogs and toads to frolic or birds to bath or drink. I also have two large concrete dishes for bird baths in the garden in addition to the running water but have noticed that the large birds enjoy these features instead.

We finally arranged the fountain area near the house. Back in 2011, I showed you how we had to clean this area washing all the stones. We found the pump from the fountain had been cut through with a garden clipper by the previous owners. We bought a new pump and rearranged the stones as we have a pump with various functions one of which is this ball shape. The water sounds so pretty when you have this running. I can even hear it indoors now as I sit chatting with you.

  1. I'm going to find a little place for a water feature when we rethink our garden, Heidi.

  3. They are so pretty and must be very peaceful to just sit near and listen and watch. Neat that the birds like them. I never knew birds would go to a garden fountain.
    Love you, Mom

  4. Oh how marvelous!!!!!!!! Lovely, lovely, lovely!

We have a little bird bath fountain in the (man-made by my husband) little pond, outside our back patio doors... It gives a lovely sound too. But sadly, when the weather makes us close up and have A/C on, I can't hear it anymore. Same for the lovely tinkling of the wind chimes.

I love the sound of water, and of wind chimes.

"I want to have a little house with sunshine on the floor,
    A chimney with a rosy hearth, and lilacs by the door;
With windows looking East and West, And a crooked apple tree,
And room beside the garden fence for hollyhocks to be!"

  5. Thank you for asking about our tiny fountain. I have shown it in the past, but it will make a very nice idea for a new post, now. :-)

My husband put it all together... It didn't come as a bird bath fountain pond. :-) He dug the kidney-shaped hole for the kidney-shaped plastic tub, to be the sunken pool. Then collected interestingly shaped stone slabs, to put around it, and hide the plastic pool edge.

We got the pretty bird bath. He make it into a fountain, which spouts a bit of water, which then runs back into the pond. He electrified it, so it works with an inside switch. We love it.

I'll show it more closely, soon. :-)

    Gentle hugs,
    "Auntie"

  6. How soothing; nothing beats the sound of gently "moving" water.

  7. Hello there, Your water features are lovely. We put a small pond with a water fall in our backyard and like you said it makes a very nice sound that drowns out some of the neighborhood noise. I especially like it in the evening on nights that we dine outside. I just found your blog and I am your newest follower. Please come on over and follow me back. I enjoy meeting like-minded blogging sisters and the sharing of talents and ideas. Have a marvelous day. Hope to hear from you, Connie :)
