BeforeI brought my butler tray in from the entrance and placed some decorations on it and a large dough bowl underneath...
AfterI had intended to create a space to display some of my doll/small quilts while also hiding the thermostat. I needed air flow to circulate there so I solved the problem by sawing (well Jos did that part...grins) a piece of weather old wood and mounting my hooks onto them before hanging them on the wall. It stands about 1-1/2 inches from the wall but you cannot tell, however it allows the air to flow just perfectly and it gives me a rustic, primitive look that I wanted...
I love having a special space now to use for seasonal decorations in my living room. So for late summer...roses and blueberries with some tea accessories and a stitched piece I made a number of years ago...
I do need to swap the lamp for a smaller one I think. What do you think? This is one of my favorite lamp shades and would rather change the lamp than change the shade. I have a similar lamp upstairs that is a bit smaller with a small lampshade.
What was most fun is that the makeover of this wall was completely free. I used all items I already had.

It is lovely, Heidi. Maybe a lamp that is just a bit shorter would give light to your quilts? I really like the weathered wood under the hooks. Take care!

As to your lamp question... I just love, love, love little ambiance lights. So I'd vote for a smaller lamp. But it's YOU, who should be pleased by things in your house. :-)

As usual, a job well done. It looks really good and I know how happy you are to cover yet another thing you do not want to look at in your house. In the winter, it might be a problem for Jos. He always heads straight for it when he comes home from work to see that the heat is turned down. LOL. The true Dutchman.

ReplyDeleteI know you don't want to change the shade but I think a smaller shade might look less crowded. You'd have to try what you have and see. Too small a lamp might not work either, so I say just change the shade or find a similar size lamp with a smaller shade or a shade shaper differently, curved smaller at the top. Just my two cents worth. What you've done looks really nice though. I love the way you add little details to your tables tops.

ReplyDeleteThis looks really good, what a brilliant idea to hide the thermostat behind the quilt. I think you are right that a smaller lamp (ie shorter)would look better as it wouldn't hide part of the quilt and would balance the flowers better as well.
